At the beginning of the 21st century, e-commerce experienced rapid growth. In 2010, a small beauty select shop Founded on Alibaba's Taobao platform. It specialized in sourcing and purchasing Japanese cosmetics, unveiling the secrets of beauty for its customers. That shop was the predecessor of BoBo Do.

After years of cultivation, the shop owner, BoBo, realized that as people's pursuit of beauty accelerated, they were no longer satisfied with cosmetic brands, colors, and textures. They began to seek expertise in makeup techniques. In China, there is an ancient saying, "工欲善其事，必先利其器" (To do a good job, an artisan needs the best tools.) Starting from MAC and Shu Uemura, more and more people discovered the allure of Japanese makeup brushes, commonly known as "KUMANO FUDE." Therefore, BoBo, the shop owner of BoBo Do, embarked on an extraordinary journey to explore Kumano Fude.

One pioneer should be mentioned here, Sonia G, "goddess of makeup brushes". She represents the academic aspect of the makeup brush industry, offering unique insights into makeup brushes.

Articles from Sonia G are meticulously crafted, akin to academic papers—clearly explaining the user's eye shape, needs, and possibilities.The article also mentions her original models, including meticulously breaking down, deriving and detailing the brush usage.She compares similar brush types and inspirations, confidently presenting the similarities and differences between her products and those of her current fude collections from other brands.

BoBo gained invaluable knowledge through Sonia G's blog. BoBo realized that replicating the production of makeup brushes would only result in similar appearances, never capturing the essence of the brushes. From Bobo’s perspective, besides the designer's dedication, the craftsmanship of artisans is also indispensable.

BoBo followed Sonia's footsteps and arrived in Kumano, a small countryside town located in Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan. Kumano may be small in size, but it is the capital of handmade makeup brushes, and the hometown of all the renowned masters of makeup brush craftsmanship, such as Yoshiki from KOYUDO and Tesshyu from CHIKUHODO.

BoBo visited KOYUDO and CHIKUHODO and learned that each makeup brush requires at least 30 steps to complete, with the majority of those steps being done by hand. The masters meticulously select brush hairs, using specialized combs to remove inferior hairs. They design brush head shapes, layers, and the tightness of bundling based on the texture and characteristics of the hairs, ensuring the handle's thickness, weight, and ergonomics align with human needs. All the processes may seem simple but it takes decades of professional mastery

to complete. Most importantly, these processes possess a level of refinement that cannot be achieved by modern mechanized manufacturing - the soul of a makeup brush.
