I truly feel *so* fortunate to have these remarkable brushes in my collection — they are nothing short of treasures.
**KOYUDO Sakura Makie Powder Brush**: This brush is a breathtaking work of art. The craftsmanship on the Makie handle alone makes it a collector’s dream — elegant, delicate, and uniquely Japanese in its aesthetic. The brush head itself is luxuriously soft, gliding over the skin like silk. It disperses powder flawlessly, giving the most natural, airbrushed finish. It’s not just a brush — it’s a celebration of beauty and tradition in one perfect piece.
**KOYUDO Flame**: The Flame is truly a standout in both form and function. With its signature fiery red lacquered handle and ultra-soft bristles, this brush commands attention while delivering impeccable performance. It’s versatile, beautifully balanced in the hand, and has quickly become one of my go-to tools for setting and finishing. Every time I use it, I’m reminded of how artistry and practicality can meet in perfect harmony.
**Saibikoho/Gray Squirrel Mix High Grand Saikoho by Yoshiki**: This brush is nothing less than a masterpiece. The rare Saibikoho mixed with gray squirrel creates a softness that feels like a whisper on the skin — it's truly unparalleled. It picks up product delicately and distributes it with precision and grace. The craftsmanship by Yoshiki is evident in every detail, and using it feels like a deeply luxurious experience. It’s not just a brush — it’s an heirloom.
Each of these brushes brings me joy and inspiration. I feel incredibly lucky to own such finely crafted tools — they elevate my routine and remind me why I fell in love with makeup artistry in the first place. These are not just brushes — they are expressions of beauty, passion, and the highest level of Japanese craftsmanship.
So this review is for the squirrel/saikoho mix (black handle).. I really like this brush, though it does feel a lot denser and stiff (I don’t know if that’s the right term) but it doesn’t have as much movement as the saibikoho or fox version, especially if kept in brush guard. But I got it to floof up quite nicely when I finally washed it and didn’t put a brush guard on it afterwards. But I really like the mix of hair type in this brush a lot. I would love to see these brushes with a 45mm hair length, so as to give it a bit more movement. But I still love all of them and am really glad I picked them up!! The makie is beautiful and I love the black/gold and red/gold gradient so much:) And they’re nicely weighted too.. they’re not really lightweight but not heavy either. Just right;)
Absolutely gorgeous brush!! Craftsmanship is phenomenal, the saibikoho is as soft as silk, and I love- love the shape of the brush! It’s my favorite style of brush head. So pleased with my purchase!! And the little sweets she sent were lovely and very thoughtful! I am so excited because I was able to snag the black handled one as well, so I’m thrilled I’ll have the set:) Thank you Bobo!!
