Bunshindo is a small artisan workshop that continues to create makeup brushes using traditional techniques originally developed for handcrafted Japanese calligraphy brushes.

Every brush is made entirely by hand, beginning with the careful selection, sorting, and preparation of the natural hair. More than 20 individual processes are required before a brush is finally completed. Each step is approached with the same patience and precision as the creation of a work of art.

Because of this highly labor-intensive production method, Bunshindo is unable to manufacture its brushes on a large scale. Each piece is made to order in limited quantities by skilled artisans.

This 19mm flat-top Kolinsky brush holds a particularly important place in Bunshindo’s history. It was the workshop’s first creation when its traditional brushmaking craftsmanship was introduced into the world of makeup brushes.

The brush features rare vintage Kolinsky hair, a 19mm-wide ferrule, and a 36mm hair length. Its densely bundled flat head offers an exceptional balance of softness, elasticity, and control, allowing products to be applied and blended smoothly and evenly.

The naturally resilient Kolinsky fibers work beautifully with liquid, cream, and powder formulas, making the brush suitable for foundation, cream blush, contour, bronzer, and seamless buffing.

A tortoiseshell-inspired handcrafted handle and a genuine buffalo horn ferrule complete the design. As buffalo horn is a natural material, each ferrule may feature slight variations in color, transparency, and pattern, ensuring that every brush is truly unique.
